Martha is at a fund-raiser with Lionel, wearing a necklace he’s loaned her. Lois is also there as Oliver Queen’s date. As Martha makes a speech, a masked bowman comes in and grabs her necklace. Lois follows him as he heads up an elevator shaft, but she grabs a ring off from a chain around his neck. The head of Lionel’s security firm Safetex, Milo, interrogates Lois. She has no answers, but tells Oliver about the ring. Clark arrives to pick Lois up. Oliver suggests that he thought Clark would be more sophisticated, and Clark thinks Oliver is stuck-up.
Lana and Lex return from a jog when Dr. Groll shows up to reveal the results of his test on the fragment of the disk. It is a power source that could solve the world’s energy problems, or be used as a deadly weapon. Lex tells him to keep working with it. Lionel meets with Lana and questions her about the artifact. Lana says she moved in to watch over Lex, and Lionel warns that they may not survive Lex’s new attempts, and suggests they destroy it. Later, Lana tracks Dr. Groll down and warns him that Lionel will approach him and make him an offer, and Groll should come to Lex and Lana first. He is unconcerned, so to threaten him, Lana starts talking about how Lex has the power to ruin his whole life.
Lois intends to write an article about the "Green Arrow Bandit" and goes to Chloe for help analyzing the ring and the inscription in it. They are interrupted when the mysterious robber fires a gas arrow into the room and takes the ring. Back at Oliver’s clock tower, the robber puts the ring in front of a family picture of the Queens. Later, Oliver tries to pursuade Lois to go away with him for the weekend, but she is determined to catch the Green Arrow.
Lionel shows Clark a list of other items insured by Safetex, and also stolen by the Green Arrow. There is only one item that hasn’t been stolen yet, a jeweled necklace. That night, the Green Arrow uses a cable and arrow to enter the building and a crystal-tipped arrow to divert the electric eye beams. Clark arrives to stop him and they fight. Green Arrow points out that Clark is on the wrong side, then fires a taser-bolt at Clark. Clark dodges the arrow; it glides by and hits a security guard instead. Clark goes to check on the guard and the Green Arrow makes his escape.
Chloe shows Clark images of the ring that she is working on enhancing. Lois is confronted in her apartment by two men. As they attack her, she calls Chloe for help. Clark super-speeds to the Talon but she is already gone. Oliver enters shortly after, and Clark believes the Green Arrow took Lois, but Oliver objects. Using her cell phone, Chloe sends Clark the restored image from the ring, and Clark recognizes it as Oliver Queen's family crest, which he has on display in his loft apartment, and figures out the Green Arrow's true identity. He goes to the Queen Tower and finds a hidden room with the Green Arrow’s equipment and collection newspaper clippings of Oliver’s anonymous charitible deeds. There is also a tracking system following Lois’ GPS signal.
The men who grabbed Lois take her through the sewers and interrogate her about the Green Arrow, submerging her head in a tank of water to make her talk. Milo is in charge, and informs Lois that his company was humiliated by her story on its failure. She passes out, and Milo orders his men to kill her, but Green Arrow arrives and takes them down. He picks up the unconscious Lois and lifts her to safety.
Lex confronts Lana about threating Dr. Groll, and surprisingly, congratulates her on her blackmail skills. She warns him about Lionel and admits she knew the artifact was a weapon. But she tells him she wants him to continue working on it since it may be all that saves them the next time.
On a rooftop, Lois wakes up to find Green Arrow standing over her. Before she can unmask him, Clark uses his heat vision to distract her and Green Arrow escapes. Clark intercepts him and warns him that he knows who he is. Oliver says that he has seen Clark's powers, so they are even. Clark informs him that they will be even when he returns Lionel's necklace
The next day Chloe reveals to Clark that all the stolen items have been returned and anonymous donations to charity have been made after the thefts. Then she discovers that all of her photo files have been deleted. Clark tries to look innocent, but Chloe quickly realizes that Clark knows the Green Arrow's true identity, and that Green Arrow knows his. He asks her to stop investigating, as a favor to him.
It is revealed that Lionel and Lex were working together to test Lana. Lex tells Lionel that he isn’t going to let Lionel any closer to the project, and he doesn't buy the good-guy image Lionel is selling to the Kents
Clark finds Oliver waiting for him in his loft, reading an article Clark collected about his parents' death. Clark warns that Oliver will end up hurting Lois unless he tells her the truth. Oliver gives him the necklace, stating that that Lionel bought it off the black market. They argue over Oliver's philosophy that stealing from the rich is acceptable if the ends justify the means. Clark admits his idea of right and wrong isn’t as clear as it used to be, but says he will never feel that stealing is right. Oliver tells Clark that using his abilities to help his family is honorable, but he can't wait for people to ask him for help. Oliver suggests that Clark use his powers to help anybody who needs it, and says Clark can contact him when he is ready to do so.
